WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE CANARY ISLANDS | What to Expect on Holy Thursday in the Canary Islands?

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) predicts for this Thursday light rain in the eastern islands and more likely from the afternoon in the western ones, with heavy showers in La Palma, rising temperatures, and southwest winds in the eastern province.

In the western province, the wind will be from the west and will strengthen at intervals strong in exposed slopes from early afternoon, especially in summits: it is expected to be strong with intervals of very strong in the summits of La Palma and Tenerife by the end of the day.

Regarding sea conditions, it forecasts variable and northwest winds of force 1 to 3, increasing to 3 or 4 and changing to a west direction with force 4 or 5 in the early morning; smooth or slight swell, which will increase to slight or choppy, and a north or northwest swell with waves of 3 to 4 metres, decreasing to 2 to 3 metres, as well as light showers.

The forecast by islands is as follows:

Partly cloudy intervals during the night. From the early hours, cloudy skies are expected on coasts and slopes of the southwest, and slightly cloudy elsewhere. Temperatures with few changes or a slight increase in maximums. Light southwest winds increasing to moderate by morning, occasionally strong in the north and southeast extremes.

Partly cloudy intervals with some clear skies in the afternoon. Low probability of isolated light showers during the first half of the day. Slight temperature increase. Light southwest winds increasing to moderate by morning.

Partly cloudy intervals on coasts and slopes of the southwest, and in the northeast. Mostly clear skies elsewhere. Possible light precipitation in interior areas of the northeast from midday and in the north and northwest in the late hours. Slight temperature increase. Light southwest winds becoming moderate and turning westerly by morning, occasionally strong on northern coasts and extreme south and southeast. In the summits, westerly winds becoming strong by afternoon, with occasional very strong gusts.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife 16 23

Partly cloudy intervals in general, with a low chance of occasional light showers on the southwest slopes. Little change in temperatures. Light westerly winds increasing to moderate by morning and occasionally strong in the southern extreme in the late hours. In the summits, westerly winds increasing to strong by afternoon.

LA PALMA

Partly cloudy intervals in general. Expecting widespread light precipitation during the first half of the day, and moderate showers that could turn into downpours by the afternoon, mainly affecting the western half. Slight temperature increase. Light westerly winds becoming moderate by morning, with strong intervals in the northern and southern extremes. In the summits, westerly winds becoming strong by afternoon, with possible very strong gusts.

EXPECTED MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM TEMPERATURES (°C):

Santa Cruz de la Palma 14 21

Partly cloudy intervals in general. Low chance of isolated light showers from the afternoon. Unchanged temperatures. Light westerly winds becoming moderate by morning. In the summits, westerly winds increasing to strong by the afternoon.
