The mayor will demonstrate that “there are no grounds” for the sanction. Fran Pallero

The mayor of Buenavista del Norte, Antonio González Fortes (Yes, you can) accuses the Insular Council of Waters of Tenerife (Ciatfe) of “exerting pressure” with the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) so that the Consistory opts for conventional treatment proposed by the Cabildo and with which the municipalities of Isla Baja disagree.

“And they do it when we are working to end this situation, which 20 years ago was worse than now and they were aware of it. So why does the sanction arise now? ”Asks the president.
González makes these statements after the proposed sanction imposed by this autonomous body registered with the Cabildo de Tenerife, which considers that the WWTP does not have the mandatory administrative authorization to purify and discharge wastewater into the subsoil, something that it has been doing since its start-up.

In this sense, there is no documentation on its construction – one of the requirements made to the Consistory to be able to regularize it – nor the exact date on which it was launched, although according to Grafcan, it was between 1987 and 1991, when the socialist ruled. Aurelio Abreu (1983-2007), followed by Víctor Manuel Lorenzo (2008-2011), himself (2011-2015) and Eva García (2015-2019). Mandates in which authorization was never required for the administrative regularization of the treatment plant stresses. “The file arises just a month and a half after Yes it can-CC reached the municipal government” and this, in his opinion, “is not by chance.”

The City Council will appeal the sanction since the deadline established by Ciatfe expires today, confirms González.

The file began in August 2019 when Ciatfe requested all the documentation related to the WWTP from the City Council and the latter replied that it had not been possible to locate it. On June 5, 2020, he requested that he regularize the administrative situation that entails the necessary administrative authorization and granting him a period of three months. The Consistory requested a new extension to carry out the required regularization procedures, an extension that was granted by writing on November 11, 2020 and which ended on December 29, 2020, without receiving a response from the Municipal Corporation. For this reason, on January 24, 2021, Ciatfe declared the installation “out of hydraulic order” and initiated the disciplinary proceedings, with which the mayor strongly disagrees.

“Once we present the disclaimer, we will hold a press conference to shed some light on this matter. We are not satisfied with the sanction proposal and we are tremendously surprised because the file began in August 2019 and it is the first time that they have referred to a serious offense ”, the ruling.

“We will show that they have no arguments to impose it since, in addition, the City Council is working to improve the conditions of the facility” and that happens, in their opinion, due to a natural purification.
