SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 25th March (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Island Emergency Plan (PEIN) has been deactivated by the Tenerife Cabildo today, Monday, following improved weather conditions. Travellers are urged to exercise caution in areas previously affected by fires last summer due to risks such as falling bushes, stones, ground movements, and holes in the ground caused by burned stumps.
This decision comes after an improvement in meteorological conditions and in accordance with forecasts from the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET). Warnings for adverse weather conditions such as snow, storms, wind, rain, and coastal phenomena have been lifted. Additionally, a rain alert issued for Tenerife by the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands under the Specific Plan for Civil Protection and Emergency Response due to the Risk of Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA) has been withdrawn.
The Tenerife Cabildo highlights the increased risk of landslides, rockfalls, and the collapse of radiata pines due to recent rains. Therefore, extreme caution is advised for those travelling through mountainous areas.
