Carlos Tarife (PP), Santa Cruz Town Planning Councilor. | Fran Pallero

The Popular Party in the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council demands “speed” from the Government of the Canary Islands to “solve the urban situation of Cabo Llanos, which is at the expense of the changes promoted by the regional executive in the General Plan of Santa Cruz, to meet the needs of the construction of the future City of Justice ”.

This has been stated by the deputy spokesman and Councilor for Urban Planning of the City of Tenerife, Carlos Tarife, who understands that “this area of the capital requires, as soon as possible, the legal instruments necessary for its development”, since the neighborhood ” it needs the necessary resources to be put into operation to improve the lives of the neighbors, such as parks, gardens, parking areas, and the necessary transfer of land for the construction of the future health center in the neighborhood ”.

“Until the moment in which this happens – Tarife points out – from the City Council we have promoted different actions in the Cabo Llanos area, from the conviction that prioritizing the management over the empty headlines, as had been happening in what concerns this neighborhood with the previous government, we can contribute to improving the quality of life of the citizens who chose to live in this environment, without knowing that they were going to suffer the consequences of the delay in the approval of urban planning instruments for their development ”.

Tarife indicates that “we have placed urban furniture in key environments, which have helped to improve neighborhood coexistence, but also the safety of older citizens, who now have elements that help them walk in safe conditions on some of the streets of the area ”. Also “we have enabled parking for motorcycles, as well as places for people with reduced mobility.”

On the other hand, the deputy spokesperson for the Popular Santacruceros explains that “since we are managing public resources, we have managed to close the site of the Ermita de Regla, which was a historical demand of the neighbors, where not only was parking without control, but where illegal activities were carried out, such as the deposit of rubble or the placement of vans with advertising ”.

In relation to this site, Tarife announces that “the Public Services area, which my colleague Guillermo Díaz Guerra will manage, plans to carry out an action next year, consisting of surrounding it with a grove, so that while the Government of the Canary Islands process the urban document of the City of Justice, we can improve the appearance of the site of the Ermita de Regla “.

Among the actions that are planned in the area, within the framework of municipal powers, Carlos Tarife also announces that “we have commissioned a project to convert the back of the Palmétum into a pedestrian promenade, and we have agreed with the Port Authority the transfer of the lands that run between the auditorium and the Hondura dock ”.

To these initiatives, we must add “the placement of bio-healthy elements in the surroundings of Cabo Llanos, as well as the location of a children’s playground in the area of the Black Castle.”

In short, Tarife assures, “based on work and management, we have managed to unblock initiatives that improve the quality of life of the residents of Cabo Llanos, in contrast to the abandonment to which the previous government subjected this neighborhood, which is one of the of greater projection for our city ”.
