SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 25th March (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands has announced the recipients of the Viera and Clavijo 2023 awards, the most prestigious recognition given by the department to educational work in non-university education in the archipelago. The official award ceremony will be held on 24th May at the House of Culture in Los Realejos, Tenerife.

The Viera and Clavijo awards honour educators who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, outstanding personal achievements, and success in promoting participation, equality, and quality in the educational system of the islands. They also recognise educational institutions that have excelled in innovation, best practices, and projects related to Canary Islands culture.

This year, ten candidates have been selected, including seven educators in three different categories and three educational institutions.

The recipients of the Viera and Clavijo awards for their educational contributions are Cristina Blanco Sánchez, the head of Cairasco de Figueroa Secondary Education Institute (IES) in Gran Canaria; Julián Fariña Rodríguez, the director of the Integrated Vocational Training Center (CIFP) Virgen de Candelaria, Tenerife; and Pedro Rodríguez Rodríguez, a teacher and technician in the General Directorate of Education Planning, Inclusion, and Innovation of the Government of the Canary Islands, who has recently retired.

María Isabel Pérez González, an educator with nearly forty years of service at IES Bañaderos-Cipriano Acosta (Gran Canaria) until her retirement in the 2022/23 academic year, has also been acknowledged for her exceptional career and dedication. Additionally, Pascual Molina Barreto, posthumously, who worked at IES Doctor Antonio González González (Tenerife), has been recognised.

Manuel García Déniz and Rafael Curbelo Armas, both retired, from Lanzarote, have been awarded for their significant contributions towards achieving educational goals.

The educational institutions honoured in this 2023 edition for their innovative practices, projects, and focus on Canary Islands culture are CEIP Puntagorda (La Palma) and Gran Canaria in Gran Canaria and IES La Labor in La Laguna, Tenerife.
