The Teide National Park’s access through La Esperanza (TF-24) and La Orotava (TF-21) has been closed by the Tenerife Cabildo this Sunday due to icy patches on the roads.

Specifically, the TF-21 closure spans from PK 16 (Aguamansa) to PK 45 (Parador de las Cañadas del Teide), while on TF 24 it starts from PK 24 (Los Loros crossing) and extends till the end. The Island Corporation advises the public to refrain from unnecessary travels, particularly to the peak regions of the island and to abstain from outdoor activities.

On the 22nd of this month, the Tenerife Island Council proactively implemented the Tenerife Island Emergency Plan (PEIN) due to the pre-warning for rain, winds, snow in high altitudes, storms, and coastal events on the north coast of the island, as notified by the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Canary Islands, under the Specific Emergency Plan of the Canary Islands for Risks of Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA).

Yesterday morning, the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands revised the situation to an alert for rain in the elevated areas and the south and east-southeast slopes of Tenerife, urging the public to exercise utmost caution.

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) released a report on the 22nd regarding the potential impacts of the Isolated Depression at High Levels (DANA) affecting the Archipelago over the weekend, projecting possible locally heavy and intense rainfall and snowfall above 2,000 meters, accompanied by storms moving across the western archipelago, along with high to very high winds mainly in the summit regions, with gusts exceeding 70 km/h.
