The Lenovo Team, with Extensive Derby Experience

If experience is a measure, when it comes to Canary Island derbies, the palm goes to the Lenovo Tenerife squad when compared to the players of Gran Canaria. The accumulated matches in the chicharrera locker room amount to 82 of this kind, while in the claretian realm, the total is 52 – see the table attached at the top.

These data reflect, on one hand, that in Lenovo there is a foundation upon which the team is built and that both the club and Txus Vidorreta know perfectly well, supported in the last five years by the duo formed by Marcelinho Huertas and Gio Shermadini, two titans who excel against Granca.

Both have played nine derbies to date, including the one from the Copa del Rey of last season, and the numbers are incredible. 14.6 points and 6 assists on average for the Brazilian guard; meanwhile, Sherminator rises to 19.2 points – with an 80% success rate in two-point shots –, 5.2 rebounds, and an average individual rating of 26.3 units.

Only Ferran Bassas has played more derbies than these two players, with a caveat: of the ten he has played, six were with the Tenerife jersey, where he won five times and only lost once; the complete opposite of his time as a claretian, as he hasn’t won any of the four played.

Sasu Salin has also experienced this inter-island clash, the player who has played the most derbies in history with 14 matches. While playing for Granca, he won two out of the five played; while with the yellow jersey, the balance is eight victories and nine defeats since he signed for Tenerife in the 2019-20 season.

Conversely, in Dreamland, five players are set to play their second derby after the one in the first round, giving them the chance to even out the score.
