Through this plan, The insular institution will provide 30 homes that will promote the autonomy of at least 60 people who have been exposed to this type of violence, both women and their families.
The project will include the attention of specialized personnel who will provide social support and comprehensive intervention services in their empowerment and recovery processes.
The third vice president and counselor of Social Action of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Marián Franquet, highlighted this Tuesday, during an extraordinary plenary session of the island institution, the need for this type of measures “to be, for women, the exit door to a situation of violence that puts them in danger on a daily basis and that makes integration impossible. complete in society. ”
Franquet explained that the situation created by the pandemic has aggravated the situation of gender violence, which is why he ensures that “housing is essential for women, children and girls to reorient and re-plan their lives.”
In addition, he explained that this measure is included in the State Pact on Gender Violence in Spain but that, given the delay in the arrival of funds, the Cabildo has decided to carry it out directly.
In this way, the island corporation has endowed 250,000 euros for this project, which will include the work of eight specialists and which will start on December 1.
The beneficiaries will receive the advice and accompaniment of professionals in social education, social work or advocacy, to achieve a social and labor integration that allows them to continue with the rents in a self-sufficient way.
The counselor highlighted the role of social integration in this year-long process: “It is not only the need for housing, but the specialized support by the professionals of the network. It is precisely this that makes the project a ‘ gateway ‘to independent and socially integrated life “.
Likewise, it seeks to promote the reparation of the social damage experienced by victims of gender violence, complying with measures 75 and 167 of the State Pact, related to access to housing and the improvement of social and educational support, training and insertion labor.
