The PSOE has pointed to the San Miguel de Abona City Council as responsible for the “improvised rubbish dump” that the land adjacent to the Juanito Marrero football field has become. The socialists urge the local government to allocate this space for another use, after consulting with the population of Las Zocas. The land in question, categorized as rustic (as stated in the deed) and covering an area of one hectare, was donated by a local family for sports, social, or cultural use.
Councilor Carol Correa recalled that the technical report accompanying the transfer specifies that the addition of this land to municipal properties “would improve the conditions for the use of existing facilities.” The councilor maintains that the document “clearly states” that it should be designated for public equipment, “whether recreational, educational, social or sporting, and not as a rubbish dump.”
Carol Correa conveys the concern of the San Miguel socialists about this situation and emphasizes that “we believe that the land donated by the family should be used for projects that enrich the lives of the residents of Las Zocas and the rest of the municipality, whether by expanding existing sports facilities or creating social or cultural spaces.”
Las Zocas is a locality that is experiencing “constant growth.” Carol Correa states that currently, the resident population exceeds a thousand people, who deserve and require suitable facilities that promote “the well-being and development of its inhabitants.”
