SECRET SPOT IN TENERIFE | A hidden gem with a beach, fresh seafood, and stunning sunset: discover where one of Tenerife’s hidden treasures lies

Tenerife holds countless corners waiting to be explored. From towering mountains to the coastline, through a rich midlands steeped in customs, gastronomy, and architecture. In this instance, let’s head to sea level to highlight one of those charming villages that hardly ever make it onto the map.

Our recommendation comes from Tenerife artist Jadel. During the Premios Dial, Jadel shared with El Día one of his favourite spots on the island, and it’s none other than San Miguel de Tajao, on the southeast coast of the island.

The singer, born in Vistabella, chose this place for several reasons: “It’s a spot not everyone knows about. It has a lovely little pebble beach, excellent seafood restaurants. You can enjoy a great sunset with a delicious dinner“.

A Fishing Village

San Miguel de Tajao belongs to the municipality of Arico, in the south of Tenerife. This village has a strong fishing tradition, as it originated as a shelter for the traditional boats that used to frequent the area for fishing.

Back in 1993, the large rock that served as a natural harbour became the Tajao pier. Despite the pier being established in that year, inhabitants have been present in this, once a small fishing village since the 19th century.

With a rock as a natural dock and fresh water running through the Bijagua Ravine, it was a prime spot for those venturing out to sea in search of food. Tajao is one of the places that has undergone the least change throughout history.

Despite its increased population and being one of the best spots for fresh seafood, its natural landscape and fishing identity have endured over time. A place to witness a beautiful sunset and like Jadel with his music, it never disappoints.
