SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 19th March (EUROPA PRESS) –

A 23-year-old man was apprehended by the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Local Police last Sunday for assaulting his partner in their shared home, and even chasing her onto the public road wielding a large machete. The aggressor sought refuge in his apartment after being confronted by neighbours who came to the aid of the victim.

The incident took place in the El Sobradillo area, and based on statements from various witnesses and the victim herself, this was not the first time the man had attacked her. The police were alerted initially by a heated argument that caught the attention of neighbours at the couple’s residence. Upon arriving at the scene, several neighbours were outside and confirmed the assault on the young woman, who was holding a baby just three weeks old.

It was these neighbours who first intervened to prevent the attacker from harming the woman with the machete, managing to disarm him. They successfully persuaded the assailant to abandon his violent intentions, allowing the victim to seek refuge at her relatives’ home. The authorities located and apprehended the suspect, gathering information about the incident and inspecting the residence where the violence occurred.

Subsequently, the police also located the 20-year-old victim and interviewed her, verifying previous incidents of assault. She was informed of her rights and the support services available to her as a victim of gender violence. Additionally, she was advised to visit a healthcare centre and formally report the incident.
