SAN SEBASTIÁN DE LA GOMERA, 19th March (EUROPA PRESS) –

A 66-year-old man of German descent tragically passed away after being rescued from the waters of Valle Gran Rey beach in La Gomera, showing signs of drowning, as reported by the Emergency and Security Coordinating Center of 112 in the Canary Islands.

The incident took place on Monday afternoon at La Calera beach in the mentioned town, where the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) personnel responded to a distress call reporting two individuals struggling in the sea and unable to make it back to shore. Fortunately, several beachgoers and surfers were able to bring them ashore, discovering that one of them was unresponsive, prompting immediate first aid.

Subsequently, upon the arrival of SUC and local health center staff, it was confirmed that the individual was in cardiac arrest. Despite extensive efforts to revive him, unfortunately, they were unsuccessful, and his passing was confirmed.

Additionally, SUC attendants provided assistance to another individual, a 58-year-old man of Italian nationality, who was tended to at the scene and did not require further hospitalisation.

Emergency services from Valle Gran Rey, including firefighters, collaborated in aiding the victims, while the Civil Guard conducted necessary procedures.
