Officers from the ecological section of the Local Police in El Rosario caught two workers from a company dumping waste directly onto the public road in the La Campana industrial estate, as reported by the Rosario City Council. “The officers opened the corresponding proceedings to impose a fine classified as very serious in the municipal ordinance. The sanctioned company faces a fine ranging from 30,050 to 60,101 euros,” stated the local institution on Facebook.
The mayor, Escolástico Gil, raised concerns on Monday about the lack of civic consciousness when it comes to disposing of waste, belongings, or rubble. “It is something we see in many places, where furniture or mattresses are left next to the containers, even though there are specific and free collection services for this type of belongings, affecting all municipalities equally, but it is worse when it comes to companies, which take advantage of a Sunday to leave waste in an industrial estate road when they know perfectly well that they are doing something illegal,” expressed the local mayor.
“It’s sad, but in the end, only when it hits their wallet will they stop doing it,” lamented the mayor. Gil also appealed for respect for the rules: “This time they were caught, but it is a matter of education and awareness because, unfortunately, the police will not always be present to enforce fines.”
This is not the first time the Rosario City Council has addressed this issue. In August 2021, the El Rosario City Council ordered the intensification of police surveillance in certain areas of the municipality where rubble dumps were common back then, in addition to requesting citizen collaboration in case of witnessing any incidents of this nature. “The Municipal Services department has detected a progressive increase in these types of practices, which mainly occur in rural areas or in those further away from important population centers,” they pointed out at that time.
Back then, the City Council called for collective responsibility from citizens to use the available resources to dispose of rubble or belongings, such as the Clean Point in Taco, the closest one to the upper area of El Rosario, or Urbaser’s free bulky belongings collection service.
