The municipality of the capital, managed by Carlos Tarife in the Public Services department, has confirmed that the algae streak observed yesterday evening along the coastline of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is harmless and poses no health risks. Technicians on site have confirmed that it is not a spill, but rather algae that have been carried from the southern part of the island to this location due to sea conditions.

Carlos Tarife, the Councilor for Public Services, stated, “We became aware of the presence of this seaweed late Thursday afternoon, and early this morning, our technicians visited the site to investigate the situation at sea and conduct visual and analytical inspections to determine its nature.”

The councilor highlighted that, “despite confirming it was a large mass of algae, water samples have been collected to assess its condition,” and reassured that these are occurrences that the sea naturally resolves.

The Public Services department emphasizes that regular water analyses are conducted in various bathing spots to ensure water quality and absence of health hazards.
