Granadilla will have a new educational centre in La Jurada to meet the demand for school spaces due to the area’s population growth. This was announced by the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, which has put out to tender the drafting of the project for the new Compulsory Education Centre (CEO) San Isidro, in the town of Granadilla de Abona in Tenerife.

The facility, which will alleviate pressure on other schools in the area due to the increase in student population, will have twenty-one classrooms, as well as several multipurpose rooms, an Enclave Classroom and other spaces for students with specific educational support needs (NEAE), a music room, and laboratories.

The project will also include the construction of a library, gymnasium, changing rooms, cafeteria, and landscaped areas, as well as the creation of an outdoor area for a school garden, in accordance with the technical specifications set by the General Directorate of Infrastructures and Equipments, coordinated by Iván González.

The drafting contract, for which offers can be submitted until March 18 on the public sector contracting platform, has an estimated cost of 176,000 euros and a completion period of five months from the awarding.

This new educational infrastructure will represent a significant step forward for the south of Tenerife, both due to the increase in educational resources and its contribution to reducing class sizes in schools in the area, including the Magallanes and Cardones secondary schools (IES) or the Isaac de Vega and La Jurada primary and preschool education centres (CEIP).

In addition to the establishment of the future CEO, other infrastructure measures promoted by the Government of Canarias are planned in coordination with the local councils, as recently announced by the area’s councillor, Poli Suárez, following a meeting with the mayors.

Currently, there are four new facilities in various stages of implementation. These include the San Isidro CEO, the one in Abades (Arico), the Las Chafiras Secondary School (IES) (San Miguel de Abona) and the Integrated Vocational Training Centre (CIFP) in Adeje, in the town of the same name.

Likewise, the expansion of the Andrés Orozco CEO (Arafo) and the Guajara CEO (Fasnia), the Magallanes and El Médano secondary schools (both in Granadilla de Abona), Ichasagua and Los Cristianos (Arona) and Serafín Pardo (Santiago del Teide), as well as the Abona Primary and Infant School (CEIP) (Granadilla de Abona) and the Arona Secondary School Section (SIES) (Arona).

Furthermore, several municipalities have offered land or spaces for the establishment of new centres or the expansion of existing ones.

Finally, around fifty actions of varying scale have been announced in centres throughout the region, along with the initiation of the process for the installation of photovoltaic panels in seven of them, spread across Arona, Granadilla, Adeje, Santiago del Teide and Güímar. The aim is to make these spaces more sustainable and better equipped to combat high temperatures, with the installation of shades, roofs, or the naturalisation of areas also contributing to this effort.
