SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 11th March (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Canary Islands’ president, Fernando Clavijo, will kick off his first ‘Nationality Status Debate’ of the XI Legislature on Tuesday, the second of its kind after also leading the Executive from 2015 to 2019, amidst a political landscape overshadowed by the migration crisis faced by the archipelago and three judicial inquiries opened against the previous administration for the procurement of medical supplies during a pandemic.
The debate will commence at 11:30 a.m. with the president’s address lasting a maximum of two hours. In the afternoon, it will proceed with responses from spokespersons of opposition parties – PSOE, NC-BC, and Vox – each allotted a time not exceeding 40 minutes.
The President of the Canaries may respond to groups individually (20 minutes) or collectively (40 minutes), and each group will have the opportunity to offer a rebuttal (15 or 10 minutes). The government’s counter-response will bring Tuesday’s debate to a close (30 minutes).
The session will resume on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. with contributions from parliamentary groups supporting the administration – CC, PP, ASG, and AHI -.
On the same day, groups can present resolutions, which will then be discussed from 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, provided they are approved for processing by the Board.
Each group will collectively defend the resolutions they put forward and form their stance on those presented by other groups in a single 30-minute slot, following the order of submission in the registry.
The session will conclude with the voting on proposals set forth by each parliamentary group.
Government spokesperson Alfonso Cabello has expressed his desire to maintain the calm and productive atmosphere that has characterised this legislative session, leading to significant agreements on matters such as immigration, finances, efficiency, and poverty.
