Tenerife faces various challenging issues. One of these is the housing problem, with vacation rentals reducing the availability of conventional rentals, leading to price hikes.

Another issue is transportation. During peak hours, queues are common on the two main roads of the island, TF-1 and TF-5. This problem affects many people, including those in the education sector. Teachers travel long distances daily to reach their assigned educational institution, and in one such case, a group of teachers has come up with a solution to tackle housing and mobility challenges.

Twenty teachers from the Alcalá Secondary School commute daily from their homes in Santa Cruz and La Laguna. To save time and effort, they have decided to collectively rent a minibus to take them to Guía de Isora municipality.

One of the teachers, Sheyla de Armas, recommends this imaginative solution “100%” to all sectors facing similar challenges. She shared this idea on COPE Tenerife during the morning, mentioning that “every day the minibus picks us up from the Añaza area”.

Cheaper Than Petrol

One might wonder whether renting a minibus is more cost-effective than using petrol in a regular car. Sheyla emphasises that it is “much cheaper, considering the rising petrol prices“.

Among the advantages of using this service, she also highlights other benefits: “It is much more comfortable as the queues from here to the south are truly tedious. Moreover, it is very punctual since we know the exact departure and arrival times“.
