The beaches in the municipality of La Orotava, Tenerife, were closed by the Local Police on Sunday morning.

The Security and Emergencies Area of the City Council reported that the decision was made in response to the strong waves along the entire coast.

The General Directorate of Security and Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands declared an alert for coastal phenomena from 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, affecting mainly the north and west coasts of all the islands.

Expectations include rough sea conditions due to swell and winds from the northwest and north at a force of 2-4 (10-30 km/h) with local areas experiencing stronger gusts (30-40 km/h) on the open waters between the islands.

A northwest swell of 3.5-4.5 meters is also anticipated with combined sea waves of 4-6 meters, with occasional larger waves not being ruled out.
