Over the weekend of Saturday, March 16 and Sunday, March 17, the event “TecnoHack by Tecnológica Santa Cruz-Grupo Canaauto” is set to take place at the prestigious Tenerife Espacio de las Artes (TEA). This announcement was made by Carmen Pérez, the CEO of the Development Society, who highlighted that “this groundbreaking event by Tecnológica has attracted participants selected by the European University of the Canary Islands.”

The hackathon will feature training sessions and mentoring to enhance the students’ work. It is a collaborative gathering where individuals with programming, design, and other expertise converge to immerse themselves intensively and innovatively in software projects. The ultimate goal for the teams is to create a solution that champions environmental sustainability and contributes to the evolution of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, as explained by Mayor Pérez.

Participants will engage in activities on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with the winning teams set to be unveiled at the conclusion. The participation guidelines are well-defined, requiring attendees to visit the Hackathon Desk for registration. Upon registration, they will receive credentials, event attire, and meal vouchers.

The event will commence with an opening session where the specific objectives and rules of the hackathon will be outlined. Attendees will have access to training sessions, available to all interested parties, and will be briefed on the mentoring process, crucial in supporting the collaborative work of the groups that will be established, focusing on balancing skill sets among them through a structured approach.

Participating in hackathons provides university students with a valuable and distinctive educational experience. These collaborative ventures not only enable them to apply their theoretical knowledge in a practical, real-world setting but also foster the development of essential skills. In the realm of technology, students are presented with practical challenges that refine their programming, design, and problem-solving capabilities within a time-constrained environment. Additionally, the teamwork aspect of hackathons fosters collaboration, enhancing communication and coordination skills.

“The presence of professionals and industry representatives at hackathons facilitates networking opportunities, potentially paving the way for future employment prospects. Moreover, the hackathon experience extends beyond technology, encouraging creativity and innovation by immersing students in real-world issues and tasking them with devising innovative solutions,” analyzed Councilor Carmen Pérez.

This hands-on, dynamic approach to project development not only mirrors the demands of the professional world but also enables students to enrich their resumes with significant projects.

Tecnológica Santa Cruz – Grupo Canaauto is coordinated by the Development Society of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and is supported by Promotur Turismo de Canarias (Government of the Canary Islands), funded under the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, within the Next Generation EU Funds.

Grupo Canaauto will be the namesake sponsor of Tecnológica in 2024. They are the official retailers of BMW, MINI, and BMW Motorrad for the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, alongside representing Jaguar, Land Rover, and MG for the Canary Islands, among other brands.

Moreover, the event is backed by Worten, Mutua Tinerfeña, El Corte Inglés, and Última Informática in the Gold category, Hospiten in the Silver category, Fuente Alta in the bronze category, and enjoys a strategic partnership with the European University of the Canary Islands.

The 13th edition can be followed on the social media channels of “Tecnológica Santa Cruz” on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, where live updates will be shared, utilising the hashtag #TecnológicaSC.
