Her Majesty Queen Sofía continues her visit to Tenerife and following her attendance at the extraordinary concert on Friday evening to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the World Heritage Cities Group, she dedicated Saturday morning to environmental care. The monarch visited the Wildlife Recovery Centre La Tahonilla, where she learned about the work carried out by the Tenerife Island Council on the premises, and later moved to Las Teresitas beach, where she released two loggerhead turtles.
In this way, the queen consort appreciated the work being done in various parts of the island to safeguard nature, which is currently under serious threat from various activities. The queen herself chose the names for the two loggerhead turtles that returned to the sea after being cared for in La Tahonilla over the past few months. Thus, Lemon and Elma became unexpected protagonists of the day and delighted Queen Sofía, who didn’t hesitate to take out her mobile phone to take photos and record some videos before the Tenerife Island Council staff led them back to the sea.
During the morning, the queen emeritus also met with young people from the Asperger Association of Canarias (Aspercan), who attended the environmental awareness workshops held at Las Teresitas and shared some sea secrets with Queen Sofía.
