The mayor, José Julián Mena, launched the procedures at the end of 2018, at a meeting of the Local Security Board held in El Fraile with the then Government delegate in the Canary Islands, Elena Máñez. Already in the current mandate, the Councilor for the Security area, Francisco Marichal, promoted the camera installation a procedure that requires not only the request of the municipality and the authorization of the Government Delegation, but also reports from the State security forces and bodies, the Local Police and the Canary Islands Video Surveillance Guarantee Commission.

The municipal government recalls that in the course of recent months, the Arona City Council “notably reinforced security in the municipality with the incorporation of 31 agents of the Local police, the first increase in more than a decade; the extension of hours at the El Fraile security office and the incorporation of more than fifteen vehicles, among other measures ”.

An important step

José Julián Mena explained that, «after years of demands and promises, serious and rigorous work allows the municipality to take an important step forward with the security reinforcement and the commitment to modernization. The cameras in Verónicas and El Fraile strengthen Arona as a safe municipality for its residents and for the people who visit us every year.

For his part, Francisco Marichal, Councilor for Security, vindicated the progress made since the beginning of the mandate. In this period, «we have not stopped moving forward to make Arona a municipality and a safe and reliable tourist destination, notably reinforcing the number of troops and the material resources of the Local Police ». the mayor said that “we have to continue working hand in hand with the rest of the administrations, which have not stopped collaborating and lending us their support.”

Ruth Lorenzo, Councilor for Citizen Participation, stressed the importance of the new 16 video surveillance cameras. It establishes that «the citizenship of El Fraile has fought and claimed its installation for years. Like the Security Office, reopened this year with an extension of the schedule and in which the unit of the AronaMedia program is also located ”. He explains that it «coordinates with the Local Police for certain services and is giving very positive results in the resolution of conflicts between neighbors or relatives. It is a really effective, free service that allows resolving, in a dialogue way, many of the discrepancies that are generated in daily life ”.
