The Roads Department of the Tenerife Island Council has begun improvement works at the two roundabouts on TF-42 as it passes through the municipality of Los Silos. The scope of the intervention covers an area of 481.30 square meters. The works are scheduled to be completed in two months with an investment of approximately 14,000 euros.
Dámaso Arteaga, the Island’s Roads Councillor, explains that the project is part of the landscaping interventions that the Council has been carrying out in the northern area of the island. “This objective is achieved by considering the minimization of environmental costs, such as water consumption for irrigation, the carbon footprint associated with maintenance tasks, or the use of resources such as fertilizers or pesticides.”

In addition to a comprehensive maintenance intervention for the improvement of surfaces, the roundabouts will be adorned. The first roundabout will be decorated with basalt stone, resembling two crescents, while the second will use filled-in rock at its lowest point, enhancing this functional element of the road by highlighting the subsequent plantation of the ring. The irrigation system for the plantations will be installed in this area.
Furthermore, both roundabouts will be planted with shrubs, trees, and resilient plants accustomed to this type of habitat, with species adapted to these unique environments, and finally, the intervention will be completed with the addition of inert materials that will blend with the living materials. With this intervention, the aim is to enhance the landscape quality of the roundabouts and the perception of the scenery visible from the road, giving it identity and character, facilitating the conservation of green areas and minimizing maintenance costs in the future.
The TF-42 road begins where the North Motorway (TF-5) ends, in Icod de los Vinos, and reaches Buenavista del Norte through Garachico and Los Silos.
