The Department of Education of the Arona City Council in Tenerife oversees the V Municipal Plan on Addictions and the ‘Healthy Living Habits Project’. They have organised and conducted several workshops focusing on healthy lifestyles for students in ESO, FPB, Baccalaureate, and FPBA.

At IES Los Cristianos, 689 students have participated in sessions on healthy living habits which cover topics like nutrition, interpersonal relationships, personal hygiene, and emotional sexual education.

Héctor Reyes, the Councilor for Education of the Arona City Council, emphasised the importance of education in the development of young people, stating, “We understand that Training and Education are essential for the educational process. We strive to provide this training so that our youth can learn and progress, paving the way for a promising future.”

Workshops such as ‘Understanding Sexuality’, ‘Exploring Self-Identity’, and ‘My Day-to-Day’ were conducted with ESO and FPB students. These workshops aimed to encourage contemplation on the physical, psychological, and social changes during adolescence, enhance communication and negotiation skills for emotional connections, challenge misconceptions about sexuality, and reflect on behavioural patterns, gender roles, and societal expectations in relationships.

Furthermore, emphasis was placed on coexistence and emotional-sexual education in a programme involving students with diverse capabilities. The focus was on instilling good co-educational practices, fostering emotional intelligence, promoting responsible use of social media, supporting conflict resolution in classrooms, and enhancing conversational skills.

A workshop titled ‘Space Free from Biases’ delivered by the Canary Pride Association engaged 3rd ESO and 1st FPB students in discussions about stereotypes, fostering respect for diversity, and advocating against discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. It aimed to sensitise students to creating an inclusive space for diverse sexual identities within the school.

Furthermore, the Anorexia and Bulimia Liberation Association in Tenerife (ALABANTE) conducted two parallel workshops focusing on ‘Self-Discovery’ and ‘Nutrition’. These workshops aimed to help students recognise their strengths through self-reflection and external feedback, enhance their self-concept and self-esteem, promote healthy eating habits, educate them on nutrition, and encourage a reflection on their dietary choices.
