The Works and Infrastructure Department of the La Laguna City Council is set to introduce a total of 544 additional parking spaces through ongoing adaptation and conditioning works on publicly owned land. These developments are part of the City Council’s strategy to create around 7,000 parking spots across various areas of the municipality in the near future.
Mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, highlighted that “expanding parking facilities is a major concern for our residents, as revealed in the latest Laguna Economic and Social Forum survey. As a result, we have established this highly ambitious goal in the short and medium term.”
The mayor emphasised that the goal is not to increase the number of vehicles on the streets but to provide alternatives for residents to park near urban centres and easily access tourist attractions, shopping areas, public spaces, or workplaces on foot.
Councilor Ángel Chinea, in charge of the Department, mentioned that the new parking spaces will soon be operational at community centres in San Bartolomé de Geneto and San Miguel de Geneto, La Hornera road, Vallehermoso avenue, Milan avenue (Tejina), Los Baldíos community centre, República Argentina Avenue, and La Villa road.
Chinea also revealed that there are ongoing similar projects for this year, including developments on Los Menceyes Avenue and San Bernardo Street, among other locations.
Furthermore, he highlighted the City Council’s future plans to reclaim public spaces by converting current surface parking areas into underground parking lots, transforming these spaces into parks and gardens. This initiative aims not only to retain existing parking capacity but also to increase the number of available spaces in areas like San Honorato and Taco.
