The Tenerife Island Council, through the Roads department, is progressing with the construction of the pedestrian walkway at the Padre Anchieta junction of the TF-5 highway. The tasks will involve the removal of Concrete New Jerseys and the installation of height gauges. The Roads councillor, Dámaso Arteaga, is urging drivers in the area to “exercise caution and follow the signs and instructions given by the workers at all times.”

The works will be carried out from Monday (4th of March) at 22:00 to Tuesday (5th of March) at 05:00. Several access roads to the Padre Anchieta roundabout will be affected during the completion of the mentioned tasks. Therefore, on Monday (4th of March) from 22:00 to 23:00, access to Astrofisico Francisco Suarez Avenue from the mentioned roundabout will be closed, redirecting traffic through TF-24 and TF-265.

Subsequently, from 23:30 to 00:30, access to the mentioned roundabout from the TF-5 (northbound) will be closed and traffic will be diverted through the Lora and Tamayo and San Benito links. Finally, from 01:00 to 05:00 on Tuesday morning (5th of March), access to the Padre Anchieta roundabout from Trinidad Avenue will be closed with traffic being diverted through Pedro Zerolo street.

Plans of the works to be undertaken on Avenidad de Trinidad

Proposed plans for construction work on Trinidad Avenue / Tenerife Island Council

The construction of the Padre Anchieta pedestrian walkway is part of the actions planned by the Council to enhance road safety and mobility on the island. Notable are the road surface rehabilitation works and comprehensive safety measures improvements on TF-652, TF-653 and TF-662 for a total of two million euros.

Furthermore, the 2024 budget allocates 4.2 million for the rehabilitation of 16 roads, bypasses, and crossings, in addition to 34.8 million euros for road improvement projects such as TF-12 in Anaga or resurfacing of TF-1.

Improvements to the Tenerife roads are part of a comprehensive mobility enhancement plan for the island, complementing measures taken by the local government to alleviate traffic issues. These include restrictions on heavy vehicles during peak hours, enhancement of public transport through the renewal of the Titsa fleet, hiring of new drivers, provision of university shuttles, reduction of travel limits for free transport, the Sustainable Mobility Plan, and agreements with Ashotel and University of La Laguna, among other initiatives.
