Jorge de León, a celebrated tenor of international renown hailing from Lagunero but with a deep connection to Adeje, will be one of the dignitaries participating in the Holy Week celebrations in Adeje this year. This pivotal event will see him announcing the significance of the commemoration, which holds a special place in the hearts of the residents of the southern municipality. Joining the lyrical singer will be priest José Domingo González Pérez, who has previously served in the parish of Los Olivos and currently holds the position of secretary at the Higher Institute of Theology of the Canary Islands, whilst also serving as a parish priest at San Matías in the Island’s capital.

Building on the tradition since 2018, the Holy Week exaltation will be led by two distinguished individuals who have played significant roles in Adeje society, representing both its religious and social fabric. These personalities embody the spiritual and faithful aspects, as well as the community’s profound engagement with and reverence for the longstanding traditions.

“While upholding the sanctity and religious essence of Holy Week, we aim to foster unity and involvement among all citizens, presenting a proclamation that encapsulates a comprehensive view encompassing both the religious and social dimensions of these significant days,” remarked Adeje Mayor, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga.

The ceremony is set to take place on March 16 at the Convent of San Francisco de Adeje, adjacent to the main City Hall, commencing at 7:00 p.m. The event will also feature a captivating performance by Trío Angelicus, comprising Sally Li (soprano), Vitalie Rotaru (piano), and Ewa Moszczynska (violin), known for their unique blend of vocal harmonies with the melodious interplay of string instruments. This performance forms part of the Canary Islands Sacred Music Festival.

The proceedings will kick off with an opening address by Agalac Alonso Siverio, the parish priest of Adeje, followed by an introduction to the proclamation and an overview of the significance of Holy Week in the municipality by José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga.
