Time for excavators and concrete mixers, diversions and construction site traffic lights. Up to eight large-scale projects are currently underway in El Rosario. These are mostly projects not without difficulties, which have resisted in many cases (due to financing problems, interadministrative conflicts, and other circumstances) and are finally taking shape. From the Esperanza halfway point to the coast, passing through the La Campana Industrial Estate, today the municipality is in full improvement phase.
“It’s a record investment,” highlights the mayor of El Rosario, Escolástico Gil. Indeed, the eight main projects currently being carried out represent more than €28 million. The representative of the Initiative for El Rosario-Greens (IR-Greens) explains that behind these initiatives are municipal funds and also the support obtained from other public administrations. “This set of works solve historical issues that El Rosario has been waiting for decades and which, once completed, will enable the municipality to face the future with quality services in water, sanitation, health, or security,” he emphasizes.

Calvary Street.
The renovation of Calvary Street is one of the most prominent works. Its amount is not the largest, but it is the main road in the center of Esperanza. Its budget is €991,500, entirely funded by the El Rosario City Council. With this project, the street will be improved along its entire length (approximately 650 meters), from the junction with El Cascajal Street to the junctions with Pedro Juan García Hernández Street and Plaza del Ayuntamiento, including. “Pedestrian routes will be enhanced, given priority, parking will be organized so as not to create physical barriers and facilitate pedestrian mobility, especially for those with reduced mobility,” detailed by the El Rosario City Council. In addition to the general beautification of the street, whose sidewalks and parking areas are made with porphyry and granite pavements, the renewal of the water supply network and its provision of fire hydrants and irrigation hydrants will be added. The execution of new low-voltage and telecommunications networks that allow the undergrounding of these networks and the reorganization and improvement of public lighting complete the above.
Sun Street.
Near the previous street is Sun Street (TF-226). In this case, works of a more significant amount (€2,716,179) are being carried out with investment from the Cabildo and the Rosario City Council. The project includes the expansion and improvement of TF-226 as it passes through the Esperanza nucleus; the provision of sidewalks and parking areas; improvement of supply, sanitation, drainage, and public lighting facilities; the incorporation of future electricity and telecommunications network channeling; the provision of horizontal and vertical road signage, and the replacement of the enclosing walls of the estates adjacent to the street. At the intersection between TF-226 and La Fuente Street, a roundabout is planned, which will have a six-meter-wide lane and additional space to facilitate the turning of vehicles up to twelve meters long.
La Esperanza Health Centre.
The new La Esperanza health centre will cost €2,246,934, funded by the Government of the Canary Islands. The new building, with a total surface area of 1,025 square meters, will be developed on three floors connected by a staircase and a stretcher elevator. It will have an admission and administrative management area, adult care areas with six family medicine and nursing offices, a paediatrics area with two offices, all with waiting rooms and their own toilets. It will also have an emergency care area with differentiated access from the outside and all technical dependencies.
Sanitation in Lomo Pelado.
Sewerage system in Llano del Moro.
The first phase of the sanitation and sidewalk network of the TF-272 (main road La Esperanza-Llano del Moro) is another significant initiative. With a budget of 1,090,289 euros, it covers a stretch of just over two kilometers, from La Esperanza towards the Llano del Moro area. This will be followed by a second intervention, also from the TF-272 towards the Las Lagunetas junction. The funding comes from the Tenerife Island Council and the City Council. “This is a very important and essential project for sanitation in the municipality,” highlights the local institution.
La Esperanza Sports Centre.
The Tenerife Island Council and City Council are also working on the improvement of La Esperanza Sports Centre, with an amount of 520,555 euros. The comprehensive renovation of the sports hall includes the complete renewal of the roof, the playing surface, and the electrical installations. The sports flooring will be improved, the stands will be adapted to regulations, and the changing rooms and all plumbing will be refurbished. The project includes the removal of architectural barriers, the enclosure of the sports area as a safety measure, the conditioning of rainwater systems, the adaptation of metal structures and vertical surfaces, refurbishment and painting, and the adjustment of access doors to the premises and lighting.
Tabaiba Coastal Area.
The conditioning of the Tabaiba coastal area is the flagship project for the coastal zone. The Government of the Canary Islands is allocating 2,108,096 euros, and the works include actions aimed at improving and restoring the current breakwater located in front of the promenade, improving sea accessibility for citizens, preparing and integrating the esplanade as a leisure area, and addressing impacts on the beach in the area, among others. The planned works will also contribute to improving the domestic wastewater sanitation and purification system of the nearby urban area, preventing uncontrolled and inappropriate discharges into the sea.
La Campana Industrial Park.
The largest project among the eight currently underway is the rehabilitation and urban improvement of the La Campana industrial park. It amounts to 15 million euros, funded by the Government of the Canary Islands, the Tenerife Island Council, the City Council of El Rosario, and the park’s businesses. La Campana is home to nearly 300 companies and is “the economic engine of El Rosario and a vital source of employment,” emphasized by the City Council. The area has been in very poor condition for decades. The works involve replacing the pavement on all streets, expanding sidewalks, organizing traffic flow, creating parking spaces, and improving accessibility and landscaping. Additionally, there will be renovations to sanitation facilities, drainage systems, medium-voltage lines, public lighting, water supply, telecommunications, irrigation networks, and firefighting systems. Currently, works are being carried out on Tomas A. Edison, Juan de La Cierva, Wats, B. Franklin, O. Diesel, N. Diesel, and Torres Quevedo streets.
