SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 3rd March (EUROPA PRESS) –

The trial commences this Monday at the Provincial Court of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where a man is accused of murdering his ex-partner in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The Provincial Prosecutor’s Office is seeking a 25-year prison term for the defendant.

According to the indictment obtained by Europa Press, the accused and the victim were involved in a romantic relationship for over 20 years, nine of which were spent living together in the capital of Tenerife. The man displayed a consistently jealous behaviour, restricting the woman’s social circle and preventing her from engaging in leisure activities without his presence.

Following the end of the relationship initiated by the woman, the man refused to accept her decision. He persistently tried to reconcile and even went as far as stalking the victim on social media using fake profiles.

Suspecting his intentions, the woman posted a photo with another man on ‘Facebook’ and sent it to her ex-partner’s phone, triggering what the Prosecutor’s Office describes as a premeditated plan to end her life due to his inability to accept her new relationship.

The victim, employed by a cleaning company, worked in a building in the capital from Monday to Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. One Friday, at around 2:20 p.m., the defendant waited outside the building entrance with a 23.5 centimetres knife concealed in a cap.

He ambushed the woman at 3:00 p.m., pushing her into the doorway, head-butting her, and then ruthlessly stabbing her up to 12 times in different parts of her body within a span of two to three minutes, preventing her from escaping.

The man is currently in custody without the option for bail, and the Prosecutor’s Office asserts that the crime constitutes murder with an aggravated circumstance of kinship.

The Prosecutor’s Office also seeks a restraining order preventing the defendant from approaching within 500 meters of the victim’s parents and communicating with them for a period of 30 years. Moreover, a supervised release for 10 years post-sentence completion is requested, along with the reimbursement of legal expenses.

Additionally, a compensation of 300,000 euros is demanded for the victim’s parents.
