The mayors of the North of the Island learned about the progress and planning of the Island’s highways, from La Laguna to Buenavista del Norte. They did so on Thursday at the Casa de la Castaña, in La Victoria de Acentejo, where the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martin, together with the general director of Roads of the Government of the Canary Islands, José Luis Delgado, and the insular counselor of Roads, Enrique Arriaga, among other officials in the field, informed them of the three fundamental axes in proposing short-term solutions “after the failure for decades to solve traffic problems,” said Pedro Martín.

In some of them work is already underway and in others, the start of the procedures will be imminent. These three axes are the San Juan de la Rambla-Icod section, the Padre Anchieta Rotunda, and the Guamasa-Aeropuerto del Norte split.

Delgado recalled that another great work that is being carried out, also linked to the North axis, is the closure of the insular ring, to which, in 2022, 45 million euros will be allocated, being the largest investment in roads of the Spanish Government.

Regarding the San Juan de la Rambla-Icod section, the general director pointed out that “the project that will go public next month is approved and that it is a work with a high constructive complexity”, which has been resumed leaving out action on the protected natural areas of Los Campeches and Barranco Ruiz.

The La Lagun bypassa is another of the projects that will go to public information in December and that has gone through a complicated process of elaboration, because, “many parts had to be taken into account when defining the use of the land” and the roundabout of Padre Anchieta “It has already been awarded,” said Enrique Arriaga, who added that “there is a serious mobility problem on the island, the solution of which is not only to build roads, but also to build an excess of vehicles on them.”

The mayors of the north expressed their doubts and proposals at the meeting, agreeing that it is urgent to implement solutions to a historical problem that even generates situations of isolation in some municipalities.
