The Cabildo of Tenerife expresses deep sorrow over the passing of Andrés Miranda, the former president of the insular Corporation. President Rosa Dávila extends her heartfelt sympathies to the entire family and loved ones of the departed on behalf of the Cabildo and the entire Tenerife community.
Hailing from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Andrés Agustín Miranda Hernández (born 1934) held various significant roles during his career. He served as a councillor in the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council from 1967 to 1970. In 1971, he assumed the role of general director of Pharmacy in Madrid, later becoming a solicitor in Cortes before being appointed president of the Cabildo of Tenerife. He held the presidency of the insular Corporation from April 1971 to January 1974.
In 1982, he joined Alianza Popular, a political party for which he represented the Canary Islands Parliament until 1986. His contributions were recognised with the Tenerife Gold Medal in 2002, and in 2013, he actively participated in the Centennial commemoration events of the Island Councils. A book chronicling his life, titled ‘Memorias Andrés Miranda Hernández’, was published in 2014 by LeCanarien editions.
