The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, admits the “pressing problem” of the TF-5 after several decades “of inoperance”

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 5 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The construction project of the La Laguna beltway will go public next December after a complicated elaboration process in which “many parts had to be taken into account when delimiting land use, with the City Council being involved. , the Army and many individuals “.

This is how the general director of Roads of the Government of the Canary Islands, José Luis Delgado, points out that it is a doubling that will free the traffic that circulates towards Santa Cruz and will make La Laguna recover “the scar generated by the passage of the highway through the urban nucleus, turning this into a great city boulevard “.

Delgado, accompanied by the president of the Tenerife Council, Pedro Martín, and the vice president and counselor for Roads, Enrique Arriaga, met this Thursday at the Casa de la Castaña in the municipality of La Victoria de Acentejo to inform the municipal representatives of the north of the island on the progress and planning on the island’s roads.

“It seems that the return to normality has been coupled, again, with a pressing problem regarding the retentions that occur every day on the TF-5”, indicated Martín, and assured that in this appointment they wanted to ask them what it is working “after the inoperation for decades to solve the traffic problems and what are the priorities for the Cabildo and the Government and how they will be carried out.”

In addition, he added that he does not have the solution for all these problems, but rather tries to “share the intention of carrying out coordinated and consensual projects that improve the chaotic situation of traffic on the island, and that Tenerife is capable of promoting projects as it is not known. had never done, and thus improve mobility on the island. “

Apart from the La Laguna beltway, Delgado pointed out that there are two other fundamental axes in proposing these short-term solutions, such as the San Juan de la Rambla-Icod section and the Padre Anchieta roundabout.

In addition, he recalled that another great work that is also being carried out linked to the north axis of the island is the closure of the insular ring, to which, in 2022, 45 million euros will be allocated, the work with the highest investment in roads in the Spanish state.

Regarding the San Juan de la Rambla-Icod section, the general director pointed out that the project that will go public next month is approved, and that it is a work with a high constructive complexity.

In addition, he recalled that in 2001 this project “had great social rejection and that is why it has been resumed, leaving out the action on the protected natural areas of Los Campeches and Barranco Ruiz.”

THE ROUNDTABLE OF FATHER ANCHIETA IS AWARDED

As for the Padre Anchieta roundabout, “it has already been adjudicated,” said the vice president and insular counselor for Roads, Enrique Arriaga, who added that “there is a serious mobility problem on the island whose solution is no longer just to build roads. , but a problem of excess vehicles in them “.

Arriaga agreed with the mayors that the solution to the problems of the TF-5 is complicated, but “the Cabildo is doing all the possible simulations and contemplating all the proposals to establish those solutions.”

Along these lines, he pointed out that “it seems easy, but it is not at all, and therefore we must be careful in the implementation of measures that may seem effective and in the short term they will not be”.

The vice president of the Cabildo also indicated that “all the proposals will have to pass a trial period before their implementation” and assured that especially from the Highways area “there is no period of inaction, but quite the opposite.”

The mayors of the northern zone expressed their doubts and proposals at the meeting, agreeing that it is urgent to implement solutions to a historical problem that even generates situations of isolation in some municipalities.
