Sebastián Franquis, the spokesperson for the Socialist Parliamentary Group, expressed on Wednesday that CC and PP, who have urged Parliament to initiate a commission to investigate the health contracts of the previous Legislature, are not genuinely seeking “a real investigation” but rather aiming to create “a lot of noise”.
In a party-released statement, he affirmed that the socialists will not hinder the proposal and questioned, particularly concerning the Popular Party, “what agenda they are pursuing in the Canary Islands rather than in Madrid”, where they have already declared their lack of support for a comprehensive commission across all public administrations. “Why are they resistant to scrutiny of their political leaders?” he queried.
Addressing issues specific to the Canary Islands, he mentioned that they have been subject to judicial and police investigations, and their transparency has been confirmed by parliamentary oversight bodies.
He also stated that the PP is in no position to lecture the PSOE on combating corruption as they have instead engaged in “cover-ups, tampering with evidence, and manipulating state institutions, law enforcement, and other entities to conceal and criticise corruption practices.”
In contrast, the socialists, under the leadership of Pedro Sánchez, have seized power with the aim of eradicating corruption in the country.
“Mr. Feijóo joined the Popular Party for the exact opposite reason, to conceal all wrongdoing relating to corruption within the party,” he emphasised.
