The City Council of Granadilla de Abona confirmed yesterday its decision to allocate a section of the Business Center building, situated in the Industrial Estate, for the establishment of an Integrated Vocational Training Centre by the Department of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands.
This announcement was made by the Mayor of Granadilla de Abona, Jennifer Miranda, following a meeting at the town hall with the Director General of Educational Infrastructure and Equipment of the regional Executive, Iván González. The meeting was also attended by the councillors of Education, Ángela Villalba, Employment, and Economic Development, Bianca Cerbán, along with the advisor to the General Directorate, Aurelio Abreu, and the technical coordinator, Isaac Estévez.
The meeting took place subsequent to a visit by officials from the Ministry to the proposed facilities on the 15th, where they were guided by various council members from the government group. The council members elaborated on the potential of the municipal centre, including future possibilities for expansion on adjacent plots, to the representatives of the Education department.
Jennifer Miranda referred to the upcoming agreement, slated to materialize in September, as “historic”. She stated that it is significant for training students in upcoming professions associated with sustainable development and clean energy, leveraging the proximity of the centre to companies within the Industrial Estate.
The education Mayor mentioned that the agreement aims to “relieve” the burden on the Magallanes and Granadilla secondary schools by shifting vocational training to the new facilities, with plans to introduce new educational programmes in the following year.
ADEJE CIFP
Presently, work on the first Integrated Vocational Training Centre in the southern part of Tenerife, situated in the municipality of Adeje, is nearing completion after facing a nearly four-year delay. The infrastructure handover process is currently underway.
The Education Minister, Poli Suárez, noted in the Canary Islands Parliament on December 12 that efforts are being made to ensure that the Adeje CIFP is operational in the upcoming school year, at least offering courses in tourism, administration, or computer science.
