The quest to catch the bus under the rain at a Tegueste bus stop

Waiting for the bus at a bus stop is the daily routine for thousands of citizens in Tenerife who rely on public transport to get to work, school, the doctor, or any other place.

Depending on the area of the island you live in, you may have more or less luck, as there are stops completely refurbished with shelters, seats, and even signs indicating the time left for the next bus. But there are also others with just a stop sign.

Possibly, the neighbours near the bus stop 1783 in Tegueste will feel the unluckiest in the world, as the stop sign is not even located on a sidewalk, but in a land area.

Resourceful Neighbours

Despite the frustrating situation, it seems that the residents of Tegueste are quite resourceful, and have been placing chairs for some time to be able to wait while seated. Not just chairs, in recent times, in this location, a sofa bed and even a toilet have been found. Anything seems good to avoid having to wait standing up.

Although all these items are removed shortly after being placed, some have stayed long enough for Google Earth to capture the image of the chair under the stop sign.

Journey under the rain

If the issue of seats is something the residents try to alleviate as best they can themselves. What they cannot solve is how to shield themselves from the rain at an unprepared bus stop.

We find a vivid example of this situation in the journey experienced by a person on Friday, 23rd of February, who had to reach the stop only covered with an umbrella.

In a video obtained by this newspaper, you can see how the woman has to walk along the roadside, which is not paved, and wait on a manhole cover to avoid stepping on the wet ground.

Under the rain and without any kind of separation from the road, or protection from the rain and wind, she has to wait for the next bus.
