The National Police have arrested three men as suspects of a crime against public health in the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The detainees, inside a rental vehicle from Gran Canaria, were transporting 6.5 kg of hashish and 667 grams of cocaine, presumably intended for the local market.
National Police, as part of other investigations, learned that during the past month of December, a drug transfer from Gran Canaria to the inter-island ferry lines could occur.
To prevent this, the agents set up a discreet police operation at the port facilities. At a certain moment, on one of these ferries, they observed the driver of a rental car who, upon noticing the presence of uniformed police, made a sudden manoeuvre to evade them.
This led the National Police investigators to execute the established operation, stop the vehicle, and inspect it, in cooperation with the Canine Unit of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Local Police.
The search of the car led to the discovery of 6.5 kg of hashish packaged in 100-gram packets and 667 grams of cocaine inside.
After seizing the narcotics, the agents proceeded to arrest the three occupants of the vehicle and impound the rental car, as it was reported as missing.
The detainees, after being brought before the competent judicial authority, were remanded in custody.
