Los Gigantes gears up for the ‘African Savannah’ Carnival

The Los Gigantes Carnival, the most ancient carnival in the southern part of the island, is getting ready to embrace and revel in its “African savanna” theme chosen for this year 2024.

From 23rd February to 3rd March, a diverse and extensive program of events awaits. It will kick off this Friday, 23rd February, at 9:00 p.m., with the Grand Adult Queen Election Gala of the Carnival that will showcase the performances of the troupe Joroperos, vocalist Miriam Reyes, and the stellar performance by the singer Angy Fernandez. Following this, there will be a Grand Carnival Dance featuring Latin Sound and Too Close.

On Saturday, 24th February, at 10:00 a.m., there will be a children’s play area and at 11:30, the traditional Children’s Cross Country will take place. Around 5:00 p.m., the Grand Children’s Queen Election Gala of the Los Gigantes Carnival with the participation of local choreographic groups, Arkacia Ballet, and the musical ensemble Imagine. Starting from 9:00 p.m., there will be a Grand Carnival Dance with performances by The Roxy’s Band, Maraury Orchestra, Tropin Orchestra, and Son Sin Límite Orchestra.

On Sunday, 25th February, at 5:00 p.m., the Grand Spectacular Carnival Parade of Los Gigantes will take place from the “La Pescadora” roundabout towards Plaza Buganvilla de Los Gigantes, with the participation of various groups, comparsas, floats… Upon reaching the square, the festival will come to life with the orchestra Band Machinery.

On Monday, 26th February, there will be a display of carnival costumes in the square. At 5:00 p.m., a group performance by The Roxy’s Band. On Tuesday, 27th February, throughout the day, there will be a historical photographic exhibition of the carnival and around 5:00 p.m., a performance by the local group Uncle Franklin. On Wednesday, 28th February, starting from 6:00 p.m., the Grand Queen Election Gala will feature the Senior Dance performances by the different associations of the municipality and the outstanding performance of Servando and Panchita.

On Thursday, 29th February, starting at 9:00 p.m., the Grand Drag Queen Gala will take place followed by a performance by DJ’S Javi Plasencia. On Friday, 1st March, at 6:00 p.m., the sardine’s wake will be held with a performance by Uncle Franklin. At 8:00 p.m., the traditional Burial of the Sardine will commence, accompanied by the Fanfare of Santiago del Teide. This will be followed by the burning of the sardine and a stunning fireworks display. Subsequently, at Plaza de Los Gigantes, the Grand Widows’ Dance will take place with performances by the orchestras Arguayo Band and Tasty.

On Saturday, 2nd March, at 11:00 a.m., there will be bouncy castles and a mask workshop. From 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 a.m. the next morning, the celebration of the Los Gigantes Day Carnival 2024 will feature numerous performances, including Edwin Rivera, Pepe Benavente, Renzzo El Selector, Grupo Saocco, Ariel de Cuba, etc.

On Sunday, 3rd March, from 7:30 p.m., there will be a performance by Tribute to Queen, marking the conclusion of the events of the Los Gigantes Carnival 2024.
