The Cabildo of Tenerife is set to permanently close and restrict access to the TF-5 highway at Guamasa, following the publication of a report by the Provincial Traffic Directorate (DGT) that supports the closure, based on 10 days of testing data.
In comments to Ser, as reported by EFE, the island president stated that once the various highway accesses are improved, a process expected to last between 6 and 8 months, the final closure at Guamasa will be implemented from 6:30 to 8:30 am.
Regarding the DGT report, Dávila mentioned that “there were no accidents either on the TF-5 or on the surrounding roads” to which traffic was diverted during the test period. Furthermore, she welcomed the finding that the test “considerably improved traffic flow.”
Additionally, the president noted that over a 4-kilometer stretch, traffic flow during peak hours improved by 10 to 15%. She speculated that if this improvement were extrapolated to a 30-kilometer route, it could result in a time saving of 20%.
“The test was carried out in Guamasa, but there are other access points that could be enhanced or subjected to similar traffic restrictions on both the TF-1 and TF-5,” she added.
What does this even mean?
