The Mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, unveiled plans last week for the introduction of 75 new parking spaces on Juan Albornoz “Sombrita” street in the Ofra-Costa Sur district. The project, scheduled to commence in March and expected to last for 4 months, comes as a response to the district’s pressing need for more parking facilities. Joined by the First Deputy Mayor, Carlos Tarife, and officials from the City Council, Bermúdez disclosed that the initiative, with an investment of 572,085.00 euros, will be carried out by the Public Services department.
Speaking at the Nuevo Obrero Civic Center in Ofra, the Mayor affirmed, “This is a new commitment that we are determined to deliver, providing the area with additional parking spaces in just over four months, addressing a longstanding demand from the residents. We are dedicated to progressing and catering to the requirements of neighborhoods such as this one,” added the Mayor.
First Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Public Services, Carlos Tarife, announced to the locals, “The project also includes the construction of four pedestrian crossings on Juan Albornoz “Sombrita” street and the refurbishment of the Juan Rodríguez Santos street pavement as part of the enhancements.”
Tarife emphasised, “The current municipal administration remains committed to one of its primary objectives, which is to create additional parking spaces in districts with a need, across all five sectors of the city.”
The 75 spaces, including 2 designated for individuals with reduced mobility, will be spread across two levels. The upper level, covering an area of around 1,000 m2, will accommodate a total of 17 parking spots, including 2 for individuals with reduced mobility. The lower level, with an estimated area of 3,000 square meters, is designed to accommodate a total of 58 spaces.
Notably, the lighting for this parking facility in the Ofra-Costa Sur district will consist of seven luminaires equipped with a photovoltaic panel and battery for road lighting, featuring six-meter high columns.
