In 2023, the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) documented a total of 2,386 incidents on the island of El Hierro, indicating a 31.7% rise from 2022, when 1,812 incidents were reported. Within these incidents, 2,450 individuals received treatment, marking an increase of 663 from the previous year, equivalent to 0.7% of the total number of individuals attended to in the entire Archipelago (346,359).
Out of the total incidents, 799 were connected to critical health emergency situations, posing an immediate threat to life, while 788 were classified as emergencies, cases in which care can be prioritised.
Moreover, 618 services were categorised as consultations and were dealt with by the SUC health coordinators, medical and nursing professionals, using telecare, without needing to deploy mobile resources. The remaining 181 incidents involved transferring affected individuals between health centres on the islands.
Relating to the nature of the services, 216 out of the total were labelled as accidents, covering traffic, work, domestic, or other varieties, whereas 2,170 stemmed from illness cases.
