SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Feb. 17 (EUROPA PRESS) –
This Saturday morning, the Public Services department of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council took the decision to close La Granja park after a tree toppled over.
From Monday onwards, a comprehensive assessment of all the trees in the park will be conducted to determine their health status and ensure the safety of park users.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez stated that this action was necessary “for the safety of the community that utilises the park for leisure activities, strolls, and family time” and assured that the park will reopen once all trees have been inspected and it is confirmed that there is no risk to visitors.
Public Services Councillor, Carlos Tarife, reiterated that the contracted emergency service provider will commence the assessment on Monday and subsequent necessary actions such as pruning and tree removal will be carried out to secure the population’s safety based on the obtained data.”.
Additionally, the mayor urged the public to stay calm and emphasised that these incidents occur “because trees are living organisms that respond to various environmental and health conditions and despite being regularly and rigorously monitored by the Parks and Gardens department, such incidents can still occur.”
The City Council remains committed to ensuring tree safety in Santa Cruz and a few months ago, initiated a study – through an emergency contract following several tree collapses – to assess the condition and health of all trees in the city.
