In SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, on Feb. 17 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The University of Granada, in collaboration with the Fuencaliente City Council, is conducting a comprehensive study on the internal structure of La Palma. The focus is to create an x-ray based on seismic data, particularly in the analysis of seismic noise and vibrations in the environment.

A coordination meeting was held between the mayor, Gregorio Alonso, and the first deputy mayor, Patricia Hernández, with scientists from the Andalusian Institute of Geophysics, which operates under the Department of Theoretical Physics of the Cosmos at the University of Granada, who are leading this research.

To execute this study, a substantial number of stations are being strategically installed to cover the entire island. Currently, a broadband network comprising 35 stations is in place, along with three profiles equipped with other types of sensors, extending from one end of the island to the other.

This extensive setup will provide insight into the internal structure of La Palma, allowing for comparisons between the pre-eruption and present conditions. It will also facilitate the identification of areas where magma has accumulated and those impacted by the eruption.

Fuencaliente municipality is actively involved in this initiative by installing two teams in Los Canarios and a complete monitoring line of six stations leading to the Lighthouse. Gregorio Alonso emphasized that this collaboration signifies ongoing support for various scientific institutions, highlighting Fuencalinente’s appeal as a study opportunity for diverse scientific domains such as the oceans, the sky, and the inner layers of the earth.
