On Wednesday, Intersindical Canaria urged for the hiring of additional staff to improve meal preparations and restore the quality of the dining services. The aim is to guarantee top-notch service for doctors and staff in special services.
“The hospital management needs to commit to and provide resources for meeting these standards. It is unjust for healthcare workers to be compelled to consume substandard meals during their hospital shifts. Management should ensure a healthy work environment for hospital staff,” stated a spokesperson in a press release.
The organization has expressed “serious concerns” about the decline in the quality of on-call meals for healthcare workers, an “indispensable service” for the well-being of those working during 24-hour shifts.
It is mentioned that the food service has experienced a “significant deterioration” since the responsibility was transferred to the hospital cafeteria.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the kitchen services were tasked with the meal preparation to “guarantee adequate quality and care,” but with the recent shift to the cafeteria, there has been a “decline in the quality” of the meals served.
The cafeteria commenced menu service on 7th February, but within a week, due to criticism from doctors, the complex’s manager declared that it would be temporary. Until the issues with the cafeteria’s contractor are resolved, the preparation will return to the kitchen services.
