Burial of the Sardine. GIVES

Tomorrow, on Wednesday the 14th, the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival will hit its midpoint with the Burial of the Sardine. The spectacular Carnival Monday night, which gathered tens of thousands in the streets until dawn, and the Coso Apotheosis on Tuesday, paves the way for the most uninhibited event of the city’s festivities.

The meeting for the Sardine ceremony, themed around Television, is scheduled for 10:00 p.m. at Juan Pablo II Street. The procession will start from there and follow the usual route: Plaza de Weyler and through streets Méndez Núñez, Pilar, Villalba Hervás, and La Marina, culminating at Plaza de España. Nearby, at Marítima Avenue, the sardine will be set alight.

The event will include performances by singers Pepe Benavente and Morocho, in a celebration known for its spontaneity and unorganized crowd. On the stage at Plaza del Príncipe, the Dorada Band and the Acapulco Orchestra will entertain from 11:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.

The Burial of the Sardine celebrations will entail parking restrictions and the closure of traffic on the streets along the procession route. Therefore, parking will be prohibited from 6:00 p.m. on Juan Pablo II streets, between Benavides street and Weyler square, as well as on Méndez Núñez, from Weyler to El Pilar, and the entire El Pilar street.

Local Police will implement traffic closures, beginning at 8:30 p.m. in the initial section of the route, affecting Juan Pablo II streets from Álvarez de Lugo and Pérez de Rozas; Jesus and Mary with Rambla Pulido. From 9:30 p.m., traffic will also be restricted at the juncture of 25 de Julio streets with Pérez de Rozas and Robayna, and Méndez Núñez and El Pilar.

All these changes will be clearly marked, and citizens are urged to adhere to these directives. Local Police officers will make efforts to assist those with authorized access to garages in the area, ensuring safe entry.
