The Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is set to host one of its most traditional and popular events today with the highly anticipated Coso Apoteosis along the scenic avenues of its coastline, Francisco La Roche and Marítima, commencing at 4:00 p.m.

This vibrant parade will showcase all the festive ensembles (comparsas, rondallas, murgas, musical and choreographic groups), along with the festival queens, costume groups, floats, and adorned cars. The spectacle will be broadcast live by Televisión Canaria, commencing at 4:00 p.m.

The capital’s City Council will be arranging a total of 8,000 free seats for the public along the route, coupled with stands situated near the Island Council, accommodating 1,300 people.

The Coso Apoteosis stands as one of the most popular attractions drawing visitors to the city during this period, largely from the tourist regions in the south and north of the Island. Projections indicate the arrival of over 250 buses with hikers in the city from midday.

As per tradition, Francisco La Roche Avenue will serve as the impressive setting for this grand parade, involving the Carnival Queen and her bridesmaids, troupes, murgas, Carnival characters, and numerous floats embellishing the city streets with vibrant hues and exuberance. The festivities will culminate with a grand fireworks display.

The lively Carnival Tuesday agenda will commence at 11:00 a.m. with the customary concerts held at the Plaza del Príncipe. The Afilarmónica Ni Fú-Ni Fá, the leading murga, will take the stage at this time, followed by the performance of the Los Fregolinos Lyric Musical Group at 12:00 p.m.

Sardine

The Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is approaching its climax, with the traditional Burial of the Sardine scheduled for Wednesday evening as part of the festival lineup.

A ritual marking the culmination of the Carnival, the event will see the capital’s streets filled with mourning widows, commemorating the demise of Don Carnal, symbolized in the form of a sardine in homage to the city’s fishing heritage, specially adorned for the occasion atop a float.
