SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 12th February. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, will meet with the Minister of Agriculture, Luis Planas, in Madrid on Wednesday to address the primary sector’s demands in the islands, which has already announced mobilizations before the end of February.
These were the words of the Executive spokesman, Alfonso Cabello, during a press conference after the Government Council. He mentioned that this meeting was arranged last week with the agricultural organizations in the archipelago, and another meeting is still pending with the European Commissioner for Agriculture, Janusz Wojciechowski.
He emphasized that the Canarian Government is “committed” to the farmers’ demands and stressed that the island farmers have been demanding “mirror clauses” for many years to ensure that the traceability and use of phytosanitary products are similar in third countries.
Cabello also pointed out that the Government is continuously working with farmers to enhance economic cooperation between the primary and tourism sectors. Consequently, the ‘Grow Together’ program has been resumed, bringing joy to the sector.
Additionally, the spokesperson announced that on Thursday the Minister of Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, will visit the archipelago to evaluate “vital issues” such as the energy crisis, the tender for the allocation of additional power, competition on the coasts, and the development of “offshore wind” energy, turning the Canary Islands into a “great national laboratory.”
