The Santa Úrsula Town Hall will create a new Civil Protection base in the El Farrobillo area. The current building that houses this group, located in El Tinglado, will be replaced by another one designed and adapted to the needs of the municipal service provided by the group, as reported by the municipal government. Among other elements and spaces, the future operational base of Civil Protection in Santa Úrsula will include training rooms, a water tank, and a dormitory.

The mayor, Juan Acosta, assures that the new building “will allow for better infrastructure for the group and will provide them with all the tools and resources to deal with any emergency.” The mayor recalls that the forest fire that started on the night of August 15th in Arafo and reached Santa Úrsula “highlighted the importance of this team of volunteers and their involvement with the municipality.” Acosta maintains that “as a local entity, our work is to attend to their demands and support their professional development, ensuring the quality and safety of their workplace. With this action, we all win,” concludes the mayor.

From the perspective of the councillor for Local Police, Civil Protection, Security, Finance, and Services, Antonio Damián González, the importance of the project for the modernisation of Civil Protection is significant. He points out that “the new facility will allow for the consolidation of services on a single floor for the convenience of the workers.”

This year, Santa Úrsula has a budget of 15,263,031 euros, with a noteworthy allocation for Security and Civil Protection, amounting to 1,197,800 euros, representing a 22% increase compared to the previous year. This growth “responds to the intention of tendering during the development of security plans for events and the self-protection of public facilities,” explained the mayor at the end of last November when presenting the City Council’s budget.

Furthermore, the project to transform the IES Santa Úrsula environment, an initiative promoted by the students of the centre and by the Health Councils, is underway. The aim of this measure is to create a more accessible, sustainable, and safe municipality. The intervention will involve the creation of a new outdoor leisure and recreation area adjacent to the academic institution. Actions will also be taken to interact with the school, the community and local businesses, with the aim of designing the area together, highlighted the Santa Úrsula government.

Juan Acosta explains that this action responds to social demands, the need to improve accessibility, and promotes sustainable mobility. “Around 800 people have to gather on a sidewalk of approximately a meter and a half, below what universal accessibility regulations require, increasing the risk of accidents and other incidents” in the access and exit of the institute. This is corrected with this initiative, whose first phase affects the road from the centre to the Casa Verde.
