The Las Chafiras local medical office will start providing services on Monday for the 9,094 residents of the area, including Amarilla Golf, Golf del Sur, Aldea Blanca, and Llano del Camello, where it is located. This Primary Care centre offers Family Medicine, Nursing, Paediatrics, Physiotherapy, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, Midwifery, and Emergency services linked to a multipurpose room for observation and monitoring of patients, blood extraction, and another multipurpose room for additional services such as early detection of diabetic retinopathy (ambulatory retinography) and functional respiratory tests (spirometry).
The staff consists of 12 professionals, including specialists in Family and Community Medicine, a paediatrician, nurses, nursing assistants, social worker, physiotherapist, administrative assistants, and the addition of a clinical psychologist. User attention hours will be from 08:00 to 20:00 in morning or afternoon shifts, with services being gradually incorporated. The Family and Community Medicine, Nursing, and Social Work consultations will open on Monday, with Paediatrics, Paediatric Nursing, and the remaining consultations expected to be added during the month.
The centre has three access points, an administration office, meeting rooms, toilets and changing rooms, admission and reception area, a storage room for supplies, a refrigerated storage room, a waste storage room, and several facilities. It is equipped with thermal solar panels for hot water.
Its construction, which required €2,215,984, began in 2019 and required a project modification, delaying its completion by three years. It is built on a 3,700 square meter plot donated by the City Council of San Miguel de Abona, whose mayor, Arturo González, highlighted during the opening ceremony that both professionals and users are moving from a 140 square meter facility to one of over 1,600 square meters.
He also mentioned that it is a significant advancement and “meets a historical demand of the residents”, a point emphasized by Rosa Dávila, president of the Cabildo, who highlighted that “it will improve care and prevent unnecessary travel, which will have an impact on mobility in this area”. “The south of Tenerife has been waiting for years for infrastructure improvements that matter to people,” she summarized.

The Health Minister, Esther Monzón, stated that the office is one of the centres adapted to the +AP Strategy and emphasized that “it enhances and expands Primary Care services, as well as the working conditions and the assistance environment for the population.” The President of Canarias, Fernando Clavijo, pointed out that San Miguel de Abona’s population has quadrupled in 20 years, “a population growth that necessitates the updating of both healthcare infrastructure and the services provided in this area to adapt to the new reality and needs.”
