SAN MIGUEL (TENERIFE), Feb. 8. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, and the Health Minister of the Canary Islands Government, Esther Monzón, toured the new local clinic in Las Chafiras, a health centre that will open next Monday after a £2.2 million investment.
Speaking to journalists, Clavijo emphasized the need to update the health infrastructure and services in San Miguel de Abona to meet the growing demands of the last 20 years. “This centre is a long-awaited demand from the municipality’s residents,” he added, noting the substantial number of consultations attended to in the previous year.
The President highlighted the government’s commitment to prioritising citizens and patients in the public health system, while Minister Esther Monzón explained that the new facility would expand care offerings by introducing new roles such as midwives, physiotherapists, social workers, and clinical psychologists.
The construction of the primary care health centre required an investment of £2,215,984 and is expected to benefit 7,316 adults and 1,778 children. The facility will offer consultations for family medicine, nursing, pediatrics, physiotherapy, clinical psychology, social work, and midwifery.
Rosa Dávila, the President of the Cabildo of Tenerife, expressed the significance of the new infrastructure for the south of Tenerife, providing essential health services closer to the homes of over 9,000 people, thus improving their quality of life. San Miguel de Abona’s Mayor, Arturo González, acknowledged that the Government has fulfilled a historical demand of the residents.
ADDITIONAL FACILITIES
The facility also includes an emergency room, blood extraction room, observation room, and various other service rooms. Additionally, the building is equipped with renewable energy sources and solar thermal panels for domestic hot water to optimize energy consumption, aligning with the Health Strategy Zer0 net emissions 2030 for decarbonization of health services in the Canary Islands.
STAFF
The professional staff comprises 12 members, including specialists in family medicine, paediatrics, nursing, social work, physiotherapy, and administrative assistants, with a clinical psychologist set to be added. Customer service hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., operating in two shifts.
A very nice centre ,will be good when blood extraction unit is open ,one small request, if it would be possible to have an English speaker on staff,as a lot of patients are English pensioners who only have pensions to live on and have to take a translator who charge for this service.Much obliged
