SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 5th February (EUROPA PRESS) –

The government of Tenerife is set to finish the refurbishment of the Aquatic Sports Center before the summer months. This announcement was made by the president of the government, Rosa Davila, during a site visit as part of an official trip to the municipality of Puerto de la Cruz.

Rosa Dávila was joined by the vice president, Lope Afonso; the Minister of Sports, Yolanda Moliné; the Minister of Youth, Serafín Mesa; the mayor of Puerto de la Cruz, Marco González, and the councilors of Sports and Sustainable City, Alberto Cabo and David Hernández, respectively.

Dávila emphasized that the new centre is a highly significant project for the tourist municipality and for the entire island of Tenerife. “It has been an impressive effort that took a long time to execute but we recognized that Puerto de la Cruz has always stood out for aquatic sports. Therefore, a comprehensive renovation was necessary. This completely refurbished centre will be a point of reference, and we hope to attend the inauguration in the coming months,” she stated.

Vice President Lope Afonso highlighted that this infrastructure, with a budget of 13 million euros, “is a true testament for Puerto de la Cruz and for Tenerife, aiming to pay homage to the many athletes and entities that have contributed to the promotion of water sports in Tenerife from Puerto de la Cruz. It also combines various functionalities and objectives, guaranteeing sporting activities and technicalizing sports. It will become an approved competition venue,” he added.

Mayor of Puerto de la Cruz, Marco González, expressed gratitude for the official visit to the town and stressed the importance of “transforming what used to be a modest municipal swimming pool into a reference centre that will provide numerous opportunities, first for local clubs and for international events that will establish us as a destination brand. “Puerto de la Cruz is closely connected to this history related to sports. Thanks to the collaboration between the government and the City Council, this centre will soon become a reality,” he commented.

Finally, Sustainable City Mayor David Hernández emphasized that apart from overcoming the obstacles for the smooth progress of the work, “measures have been taken for sustainability, including the use of construction materials for walls and the implementation of geothermal energy and photovoltaic panels, ensuring significant energy savings.”

The Tenerife Aquatic Sports Centre is situated on a six-thousand-square-meter plot, featuring a 50-meter Olympic pool, another 25-meter pool, three training rooms, changing rooms, offices, an infirmary, cafeteria, and a multipurpose room with a capacity for 600 people, expandable to accommodate a thousand seats. The project is being carried out by the joint venture Acciona Construction SA and Constructora de Proyectos y Obra Civil 2012 SL.
