Under the leadership of Marina González Toledo, the murga Chaladas clinched the top spot for interpretation at the XXX Murga Contest of the North of Tenerife held in Garachico, marking the first instance of a female murga from the northern region of the island to participate in the Murgas of the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The murga Irónico secured the second prize for interpretation with the murga Trinkosos coming in third in this section.
Additionally, in the presentation category, murga Chaladas also claimed the first prize. The jury awarded the murga Ferrusquentos the second-best costume, and the murga Virgueritos attained the third position in the presentation. The murga Irónico was granted the second prize for presentation.
Moreover, the Criticón award, bestowed by the media, was conferred upon the female murga of Icod de los Vinos for their performance in the ‘Léxico canario’ phase.
The interpretation jury was composed of Bene Fuentes, a journalist; Gustavo Campos, a musician and composer; Myriam Reyes, a singer and actress; Juan Carlos López, the former director of the Trapaseros murga; David Morales, a musician and composer; Víctor Castro, a journalist and former murguero; and Iratxe Menalbert, a graduate in Dramatic Art.
The presentation jury had already commenced their deliberations. The outcome, along with the verdict of the interpretation jury, will be revealed this Saturday. The members of the presentation jury include Patricia Martín García, the manager of La Brujita Creativa haberdashery; Alci González Adán, a fashion designer; Macu González, a makeup artist; Nerea Ortega, a graduate in Fashion Collection Design; and Marta Pérez, a dressmaker.
